Iron Mountain specializes in the storage of a wide variety of materials ranging from paper documents to film to backup data tapes. The growing market sector for data tape storage, or Off Side Data Protection (OSDP) facilities suffers from high utility expenses as a result of the stringent environmental requirements of data tapes. McGuire Engineers (MEPC) has worked with Iron Mountain to retro-commission approximately 30 existing facilities across the United States and Canada.

ENGINEERING SOLUTIONS


  • MEPC modeled the 20,000 square-foot facilities in six different climate zones with six different types of HVAC systems

  • The firm also evaluated utility rates, heating, cooling and humidity control attributes to determine the potential of the different HVAC systems including dedicated outside air systems and variable refrigerant flow units

  • MEPC performed payback analysis to evaluate the return on investment and long term benefits
    It also visited multiple facilities across North America
