The River Plaza Condominium Association retained McGuire Engineers (MEPC) to complete an energy audit for its Chicago complex to determine if the replacement of existing equipment was necessary.

Energy Audit
ENGINEERING SOLUTIONS
- Simulated the building using energy modeling software, and compared the actual energy use from utility bills to the simulated energy use.
- Once the model matched the actual energy use, MEPC modeled new heating, cooling and lighting equipment and determined the simple payback for various options.
- The results of the audit showed that the existing boilers and domestic hot water heaters could be replaced with new and more energy efficient boilers and achieve simple payback in six to seven years.
